Julie Monot/CH (*1978) is a visual artist with a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from HEAD in Geneva in 2017, followed by a Master’s degree in Visual Arts from ECAL in Lausanne in 2019. Her artistic practice encompasses a variety of mediums, including sculpture, installation, and performance. Her research has mainly focused on the boundaries of bodily externality and the various forms of representation that result from it. At the core of her artistic exploration, Julie investigates the limits of bodily externality and the modes of sculptural representation that arise from it. She is passionate about the concept of the figure, a versatile and constantly evolving notion that provides a space for critical reflection on our social constructs. Her sculptural work is characterized by the creation of pieces that deliberately transcend the cultural, social, symbolic, and mythological codes of our Western construction. She employs transformation accessories, costumes, prosthetics, as well as elements of bodily «furniture» to give shape to animated sculptures and objects. In addition to sculpture, Julie also explores other mediums such as performance, video, photography, and installation to enrich her artistic approach.

Her work has been exhibited in several solo exhibitions, including «Room for Doubts» in 2022 at Act-Art, Halle Nord, Geneva, Switzerland, and «Possibly Maybe» in 2021 at Galerie Lefebvre & Fils, Paris, France. Her work has also been featured in group exhibitions such as «Toast» in 2023 at A.ROMY, Zurich, Switzerland, which represents her, and at Studiolo, Milan, Italy. Furthermore, she has participated in exhibitions such as «Species of Spaces» in 2021 at the Bass Museum of Art, Miami Beach, Miami, Florida, United States, and «ONLINE: 1000 Space: Part I» in 2020 at the Istituto Svizzero, Rome, Italy. In 2019, her work was showcased in the exhibition «Body Splits» at SALTS, Birsfelden, Switzerland, and since 2017, she has been collaborating regularly with the Alpina Huus association. Currently, she is in a 3-year residency at Arsenic Lausanne.
