Sophie Bouvier Ausländer

2022

Born in 1970, Sophie Bouvier Ausländer is a Swiss artist based in London and Lausanne. She studied in Lausanne (CH), Brussels (B) and London (UK) where she completed her PhD in 2019 at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL. She is represented internationally (Patrick Heide Contemporary Art London and Heinzer Reszler Lausanne) and is frequently commissioned for public art works in her home country. Among her most acclaimed projects, Ways of Worldmaking is an open access library/sculpture for a college. Bouvier Ausländer’s work points to world-making and mise en abyme of the world’s fabrication and depiction. Through her practice, the artist takes on the issue of the proper distance to the world, exploring the continuity between drawing and sculpture and the continuum between physical and metaphysical dimensions.
